trinidadThis week we ask that you pray for and contact our dear friends in Trinidad, Joel and Kathleen Ali. Pastor Joel and his family has been with us on several occasions. -Pray for them specifically this coming week.
-Please consider emailing a word of encouragement to them at: heavenfishgold@yahoo.com
-We desire to send a team to Trinidad this year and encourage them and minister along side them.
-Pray about an emphasis this Summer as they reach out to the children in Trinidad to provide clothing and school supplies for them in the name of Jesus. Pray about our involvement with them in this effort as well.

Minister at the heart level to a family or friend during your Christmas get-togethers.

(Week of Dec. 13, 2009)

01imageThe first Christmas was a season of surprises. Joseph, Mary, The Shepherds, and the Wise Men were all surprised at the events that unfolded and what God did. The Inn Keeper who had no room actually closed the door on one of the most fantastic opportunities he could have ever experienced. Our engage assignment is this:

-Be open to being a surprise to someone. Follow the Holy Spirit’s leadership and be available to share a random act of kindness with someone. Just be open, alert and ready. A smile, a few dollars, a hot meal, a prayer, some advice, a task performed can all be blessings to people when given at the right place at the right time.

Just a couple of days ago, while speaking to a man, it was discovered that he was sleeping under the Bridge down at the river. He had just gained employment but was still some days away from getting into his own place. What a joy it was to know he slept in a clean bed that night.

Be on the watch for the surprises of God yourself and you may just become a source of surprise for someone else. God bless you!

collegeThanks for the many unemployed people you touched last week through your acts of love. This week we are calling upon our Grace House people to engage a College Student with the love of Christ. Finals are coming up, the holidays are here, travel plans are being made, finances are needed, and so forth. An encouragement and act of kindness in the life of a college student would really mean a lot right now to them. Consider one of the following:

-An encouraging phone call
-An encouraging note or card
-A gift certificate for a meal
-Money is always a sure winner
-A life-giving prayer

The college students at Grace House enjoyed lunch together yesterday and are excited about the plans underway for them.

(Week of Nov. 29, 2009)

prayLast week we had the privilege of reaching out in ministry to people who have suffered through the loss of a loved one prior to this holiday season in order to comfort and encourage them. This week you are asked to minister to someone who is unemployed/ Right now the unemployment rate in Alabama is 10.9%. To give you some perspective, this time one year ago, it was 5.7%.

There are people whom we all know that are looking for work. A contact to encourage them, pray for them, and let them know you care will mean a lot. Also, be sensitive to tangible ways you can minister as well. When you are unemployed, then you are experiencing 100% unemployment. Reach out to touch the hurt and help battle the despair that tries to come to those unemployed.

(Week of Nov. 22, 2009)

This week’s Engage assignment is to reach out to someone who has experienced loss during this past year. It might be the loss of a loved one, a job, etc. Please call or write to at least one person to encourage them during this holiday week. We want to acknowledge by our reaching out that the holidays are often difficult for those who have experienced a loss.

Thanks for your generous outpouring of gifts for the Ricketts in Thailand. These gifts and toys will be used for the children of Thailand during the Christmas season and for a children’s holiday which is celebrated in Thailand in early January.

(Week of Nov. 15, 2009)

Thanks for all the change you brought this past Sunday for the Helping Hands Orphanage in Honduras.  We collected $817. 52 in change and had additional gifts of $120.  Also, thanks for all of you who touched the lives of our local firemen.

This week our assignment is simple: We are collecting toys to send to Thailand for Christmas. Jason and Sarah Ricketts whom we love and support live there and are touching the lives of the Children of Thailand. We are providing them with toys to give to this wonderful children whom God loves. The Ricketts have shared with us that many of the Children have toys that are years old and very dirty and falling apart. We are saying "Jesus loves you and so do we!" to these children. Simply bring a stuffed toy or small toy this coming Sunday and we will have them shipped out to arrive in Thailand by Christmas. If you cannot participate in this way, or if you would like to do something additionally, please consider sending the Ricketts a letter or email of encouragement which would be greatly appreciated. PRAYING – Many of our Brothers and Sisters globally are facing hostility and persecution due to their faith in Christ. Following is a story of one our Brothers who gave his life in service to the Gospel just a few weeks ago in Columbia. Your prayer assignment this week is to pray daily:

1. For his family in their grief.
2. For his congregation.
3. For his persecutors to come to Christ.

Colombia: Pastor Martyred - On Sept. 21, Pastor Manuel was shot and killed by The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas in San Jose del Guaviare, Colombia, according to The Voice of the Martyrs contacts.

FARC guerrillas made an appointment with Pastor Manuel and his family. “He thought they were going to authorize him to have a church officially, which he had discuss[ed] and asked [for] before,” said VOM contacts. “One of them came in [the house] with the pastor’s wife, Gloria, and his daughter while the pastor was outside. He was shot five times.”

A FARC guerrilla who was in the house with the rest of the family yelled “Make sure that dog stays dead,” referring to the pastor. The guerrillas then shot the pastor again, this time in the neck. Following the shooting, Pastor Manuel’s wife ran outside and cleaned his face. With the help of her children, she dragged his body under a tree. “She ran and got her Bible and, shaking with tears, preached to all those who got near,” VOM contacts said. “[Her] 10-year-old son said ‘mum, don’t worry, dad died for Christ and now he is with Christ.’”

Pastor Manuel and his wife had been pastoring a church in Chopal village, south of San Jose del Guaviare for about eight years. They faced numerous challenges, and many churches in the area had been closed by FARC guerrillas. Pastor Manuel decided to open the church regardless of the threats and risks. In April, the pastor was part of an evangelistic event at which three FARC guerrillas and seven members of the paramilitary militia accepted Christ. Praise God for this family’s faith.

The Voice of the Martyrs supports persecuted believers in Colombia by providing Action Packs, support for the widows of martyrs and transportation for pastors so they can share the gospel with FARC and paramilitary guerrillas. VOM encourages you to pray for Pastor Manuel’s family. Ask God to comfort Pastor Manuel’s wife and children. Also pray that Pastor Manuel’s courageous testimony will draw nonbelievers into fellowship with Christ.

GIVING  Consider giving a contribution to the Voice of the Martyrs. Any amount would be appreciated. You can even designate it to be used to help the families of martyrs. Visit our website for the link on the ENGAGE page.

GOING – You are asked this week to travel through the mail. Write a note (or email) of encouragement to someone you know who is on the front lines of kingdom ministry engaging hurting people. Encourage them in what they are doing. Don’t just think “ministers” in the formal sense. Many educators, businesspeople, and people in the workforce are faithfully letting their love and light pour forth to those who are suffering.

 (Week of Oct. 18-24)

1. Sometime this week, pull into the parking lot of a health caregiving facility. Sit in your car and pray at least three minutes for those who work there and come there for help. Our goal is to see God’s healing power flow into the lives of hurting people. Pray for the care givers that God would give them wisdom and stir their faith toward Him. Pray blessing over the place. (Medical Clinics, Hospitals, Rehabs, Cancer Center, Dentists, Chiropractors, etc.)

2. Try to place at least $1 in one of the containers on a store counter that is placed there to help someone needing a surgery, American Heart Association, etc. As you leave the place, pray for that particular need or organization. Also pray for God to give you a compassionate heart.
